Rocca delle Macie is a family owned estate dating back to 1973. It was purchased by film producer Italo Zingarelli who, with great charisma and vision, was able to make it one of Tuscany’s most renowned and successful estates. Sadly he passed away in 2000, but there is still great affection for him amongst the staff who work there.

It is very much larger than the typical ‘3D’ vineyard. However, under the careful direction of son Sergio Zingarelli, it goes from strength to strength – the wines are brilliantly made and offer wonderfully smooth, velvet-like textures and vivid, well defined flavours. Sometimes big really can be beautiful!

Rocca delle Macie spans six estates totalling 600 hectares; 200 hectares of vines and 60 hectares of olive groves. Up in the hills nearby is a beautiful holiday retreat called Riserva di Fizzano. 3D Partners will benefit from a very special rate and can enjoy the spectacular views of the Tuscan landscape and dine in the lovely restaurant that specialises in traditional cuisine presented in a modern way.

The wines I have selected are modern and stylish but also capture the allure of the Sangiovese grape and the typicity of Chianti Classico. The Chianti Classico Sant’Alfonso is 100% Sangiovese and has lovely floral fragrance and intense bramble and spice flavours. The top of the range Chianti Riserva di Fizzano is a Super Tuscan blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. It has lovely aromatic appeal as well as rich, savoury black fruit flavours and a spicy core.
