3D Wines have championed excellent value wines from Burgundy for over two decades. Good value as well as great personality is what we look for and this is why we have focused so much effort on the wines of the southern part of the Côte d’Or and the Côte Chalonnaise. When these wines come from a conscientious winemaker, they can provide great interest as well as value. At a time when burgundy prices are sky-rocketing due to worldwide demand, as well as there being a succession of very small crops, we are delighted to work with talented vignerons such as the Chevrots based in Maranges, who remain dedicated to providing interesting, well-crafted wines at a sensible price.
The wines of Maranges in the southernmost part of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy deserve to be better known. However, the appellation was only formed as recently as 1989, which makes it a relative junior in a region whose tradition goes
back centuries. Maranges is a delightful place to visit, situated high in the hills overlooking rivers, forests and slopes of vines which turn from green to gold as the season changes.
The Chevrots are a fun family to be around. Brothers Pablo and Vincent now make the wines, yet father Fernand and mother Cathy still help out – as do other members of the family, including the children! They cultivate around 18 hectares organically and their vines are spread throughout a grand total of 15 appellations in the southern Côte d’Or. The family work hard and are totally dedicated to quality, yet remain modest, sincere and affable.
Already, the positive effects of organic viticulture are beginning to show in their wines. These are well made, elegant Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays with flavours that are pure and pristine in youth but have the ability to develop classic burgundian complexity with time.
